SRINAGAR: In a major breakthrough, Jammu and Kashmir Police rescued an eight-year-old girl who was allegedly abducted while on her way to school in Udhampur district. Two persons, including the complainant’s former wife, have been detained in connection with the case.
Officials said the child was safely recovered after police intercepted a vehicle at Khoon Naka in Battal during a swift rescue operation launched by Police Post Rehambal.
According to police, the girl’s father, Sindoor Singh, a resident of Tikri Pangeri in Udhampur, lodged a complaint stating that his daughter had been forcibly taken while heading to school.
Following the complaint, police registered FIR No. 114/2026 under relevant kidnapping sections, including Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), at Police Station Rehambal.
During the investigation, police intercepted the suspected vehicle bearing registration number HP64A-9928 and rescued the minor girl safely.
The two persons detained were identified as Ganjan Singh and the complainant’s former wife. Preliminary investigation suggests the child was allegedly taken amid an ongoing family and parental dispute following the father’s remarriage.
Police said the rescued girl was immediately shifted to Parisha Home for Girls for care, protection and counselling.
Authorities added that the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Udhampur is providing legal assistance, counselling and medical support to the child.
Police confirmed that the vehicle and both accused are in custody, while further investigation into the alleged kidnapping case in Jammu and Kashmir is underway.
