Two Arrested for Alleged Gang Rape, Filming Assault in Baramulla: Police

SSP Baramulla Gurinderpal Singh says technical evidence and human intelligence helped police identify and arrest the accused; investigation underway in a fair and time-bound mannerBaramulla, July 28: Baramulla Police have arrested two men in connection with the alleged gang rape of a young woman and the filming of the assault, following an investigation involving technical evidence and human intelligence, police officials said.Addressing a press conference, SSP Baramulla Gurinderpal Singh said the survivor approached Police Station Baramulla on July 25 and reported the incident. According to police, the woman and a male friend had gone for an outing to Jalsheeri Drangbal, where they were allegedly intercepted by two men.The SSP said the two men allegedly harassed and physically assaulted the pair before sexually assaulting the woman. Police further alleged that the assault was recorded on video and that the footage was subsequently shown to others.According to Singh, identifying the suspects initially proved challenging because the survivor knew them only by their first names. Investigators subsequently used technical evidence and human intelligence to establish their identities, leading to their arrests on Monday.Police identified the arrested men as Shakir Ahmed Lone and Mohammed Ashraf, both residents of Jalsheeri. According to police, both work as drivers.The SSP said both accused remain in police custody while further investigation continues. He maintained that the case is being investigated in a fair, impartial and time-bound manner in accordance with law.
