SRINAGAR: A suspected improvised explosive device (IED) blast was reported near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Krishna Ghati sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Monday, prompting security forces to heighten vigilance in the area.According to officials, the explosion reportedly occurred in the Satwal-Naki area near the zero line, while a group of people was moving on the Pakistani side of the LoC.Casualties have been reported, although the exact number of people killed or injured was not immediately known, officials said. The identity of the group involved also remained unclear. Officials said it was yet to be established whether the individuals were suspected infiltrators attempting to cross the LoC or Pakistani security personnel on patrol. The circumstances leading to the explosion are still under investigation.Following the incident, security forces sounded an alert across the sector and intensified surveillance along the LoC to assess the situation and prevent any possible security breach. In a separate incident on Monday, Army troops detected two rusted landmines near the border fence in the Basoni area of Mendhar sector. The devices were found during track construction at around 8:25 am and 12:10 pm and were subsequently destroyed in controlled explosions by Army experts.Around a dozen landmines have reportedly been detected and defused in the area over the past week.Forward areas along the LoC are dotted with landmines as part of the anti-infiltration system. Officials note that heavy rainfall can sometimes dislodge buried mines, causing them to surface in locations where they may pose a danger.
