SRINAGAR: Damaged roads and potholes across Srinagar continue to trouble commuters, with residents demanding urgent repairs after days of heavy rainfall further deteriorated several key stretches in the city.Commuters said roads across Downtown and Uptown Srinagar remain riddled with potholes, uneven surfaces and damaged manholes despite the rain having stopped. Affected stretches include Gojwara-Hawal via Alamgari Bazar, Dr Ali Jan Road from Aali Masjid towards SKIMS, along with roads in Khanyar, Shehr-e-Khaas and Hazratbal outskirts.Residents said repeated rainfall has widened potholes and worsened already damaged surfaces, making daily travel difficult and potentially dangerous, particularly for two-wheeler riders and e-rickshaw drivers.“The rain has stopped, but the problems remain. Authorities should immediately begin restoration work before the next spell of rain,” said Asif Ahmad, a commuter from Khanyar.E-rickshaw drivers also called for urgent road repairs in Srinagar, saying water-filled potholes and uneven stretches have affected vehicles and slowed traffic.Meanwhile, roadside vendors resumed business as weather conditions improved following several days of rain. With schools reopening after the prolonged wet spell, parents have also sought quick repairs to damaged and waterlogged stretches to ensure safer travel for students.Residents said the recent spell of rain has highlighted concerns over both Srinagar’s drainage system and deteriorating road infrastructure, urging the administration to prioritise permanent drainage improvements and restoration of damaged roads.
