
NEW DELHI: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the Centre over the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak controversy, alleging that lakhs of students are suffering due to a “broken and corrupt education system.”In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi cited the case of Akanksha, a NEET aspirant whose dream of becoming a doctor was shattered amid the examination crisis. He said her family made enormous sacrifices to support her education, only to be left devastated by the uncertainty created by the paper leak scandal.“Akanksha wanted to become a doctor and serve society. Her father, a farmer, took a ₹3 lakh loan and worked as a cook in Nagpur to fund her coaching. Then the NEET paper leaked, the exam was cancelled, and her dreams were shattered,” Rahul Gandhi wrote.The Congress leader blamed the government for repeated examination failures, alleging that students are paying the price for systemic flaws in the country’s education framework. He also questioned the lack of accountability despite multiple controversies surrounding competitive examinations.NEET Paper Leak Case: CBI Probe IntensifiesThe remarks come as the CBI investigation into the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak case continues to gather pace. Several accused have been arrested for their alleged involvement in leaking and distributing examination papers in exchange for large sums of money.A Delhi court recently extended the judicial custody of key accused, including Yash Yadav, Mangilal Biwal, Vikas Biwal, Dinesh Biwal and Dhananjay Lokhande, till June 15.The court also allowed accused Yash Yadav to access study material while in judicial custody to prepare for the NEET-UG re-examination scheduled on June 21.According to investigators, the alleged racket involved a network of intermediaries who leaked question papers to candidates in return for payments running into lakhs of rupees. The CBI has already made multiple arrests and is probing the larger conspiracy behind one of India’s biggest examination scandals.NEET Re-Exam on June 21Following allegations of paper leaks, exam irregularities and administrative lapses, the NEET-UG 2026 examination has been rescheduled for June 21. Meanwhile, student groups across the country continue to demand transparency, accountability and reforms in the examination system.The NEET paper leak controversy has emerged as one of the most debated issues in the education sector, triggering nationwide outrage and raising fresh concerns over the credibility of competitive examinations in India.
