PM Modi Urges Amarnath Pilgrims to Spend 10% of Travel Budget on J&K Local Products.

Srinagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged devotees undertaking the Amarnath Yatra 2026 to spend at least 10% of their travel budget on local products to support the economy of Jammu and Kashmir and strengthen the livelihoods of local families, artisans, traders, pony operators, pithoos, and youth under the “Vocal for Local” campaign. In his message to Amarnath pilgrims, Modi said purchasing locally made products would directly benefit thousands of families associated with the annual pilgrimage while showcasing the rich craftsmanship of the region. He also praised the hospitality and service of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, saying the Amarnath Yatra reflects the spirit of Sanatan Dharma, unity, and selfless service, with local residents warmly welcoming devotees from across India and the world. Calling the pilgrimage a symbol of India’s unity in diversity, the Prime Minister said lakhs of devotees from different states, languages, and traditions come together every year for the darshan of Baba Barfani (Lord Shiva). Modi further appealed to pilgrims to observe five pledges during the Yatra—maintain cleanliness, follow all security and administrative advisories, spend on J&K local products, gift a sapling to siblings on Raksha Bandhan under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, and uphold the spirit of “Nation First.” He also commended the efforts of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, Jammu and Kashmir Government, Indian Army, CRPF, J&K Police, ITBP, BSF, NDRF, healthcare workers, sanitation staff, volunteers, and administrative officials for ensuring the smooth conduct of the Amarnath Yatra 2026, and wished all pilgrims a safe, peaceful, and spiritually enriching pilgrimage.
