Pakistan reportedly deployed fighter jets to escort an Iranian delegation back home after concerns emerged that they could be targeted during their return, sources told Reuters.
The precaution followed discussions among Iranian officials about a possible Israeli strike after recent talks in Islamabad ended without a clear outcome, according to sources familiar with the situation.
Around 20 aircraft, including fighter jets and an airborne warning system, were involved in providing security cover for the delegation, Pakistani sources said.
A regional diplomat noted that the threat was seen as a possibility rather than an immediate danger, but Pakistan chose to act cautiously.“When the talks didn’t go as expected, the Iranians became concerned,” a security source said.
