Omar Abdullah Seeks Centre’s Intervention Over Hajj Pilgrims’ Baggage Delays.

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has urged the Union Civil Aviation Ministry to intervene in the ongoing issue of delayed baggage delivery for returning Hajj pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir, citing growing inconvenience and public concern. In a communication addressed to the Civil Aviation Minister, the Chief Minister highlighted that thousands of Hajj pilgrims returning to Kashmir are facing difficulties as their checked-in luggage is being transported separately instead of arriving on the same flights.According to the Chief Minister, operational constraints and maintenance work at Srinagar Airport have resulted in baggage being routed from Ahmedabad to Srinagar by road, causing significant delays in delivery.Omar Abdullah noted that the situation has particularly affected elderly pilgrims and their families, who are eagerly awaiting the arrival of personal belongings, gifts, Zamzam water, dates, and other items traditionally distributed after returning from the sacred Hajj pilgrimage.Calling the issue both practical and emotional, the Chief Minister stressed the religious and sentimental importance attached to pilgrims’ luggage and requested immediate measures to ensure that baggage is transported safely and reaches Kashmir without unnecessary delay. He urged the Ministry of Civil Aviation to explore solutions that would allow the luggage of J&K Hajj pilgrims to travel alongside passengers, thereby preventing hardship and ensuring a smoother return journey. The move comes amid growing concern among pilgrims over delayed baggage delivery, with many seeking a quick resolution before the completion of the Hajj return flight schedule to Srinagar.
