NIA Files Supplementary Chargesheet Against Hafiz Saeed in 2025 Pahalgam Terror Attack Case

Srinagar: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday filed a supplementary chargesheet against Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) founder Hafiz Saeed in connection with the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, which left 26 people dead, including 25 tourists and one local resident. The supplementary chargesheet was submitted before the NIA Special Court in Jammu, naming Hafiz Saeed both in his personal capacity and as the chief of the banned terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and its proxy organisation, The Resistance Front (TRF).According to the NIA, Hafiz Saeed has been booked under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967. The agency has also invoked charges related to waging war against India and criminal conspiracy, alleging that the attack was planned and coordinated from across the border.Officials said the latest chargesheet supplements the agency’s earlier 1,597-page chargesheet and includes fresh evidence gathered through forensic analysis, technical surveillance, field investigations, and intelligence inputs. It also details the alleged Pakistan-based conspiracy and Hafiz Saeed’s suspected role in orchestrating the deadly attack.Earlier, on December 15, 2025, the NIA had chargesheeted Pakistani terror handler Sajid Jatt, three terrorists later killed during Operation Mahadev in July 2025, and two arrested accused. The agency had also named the banned LeT/TRF as a legal entity for its alleged role in planning, facilitating, and executing the attack. The Pahalgam terror attack occurred on April 22, 2025, in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, when terrorists opened fire on civilians, triggering one of the deadliest attacks on tourists in recent years. The case was initially registered at Police Station Pahalgam before being transferred to the National Investigation Agency by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).The NIA said the investigation is continuing to identify all individuals and networks involved in the Pahalgam terror attack conspiracy, while efforts remain focused on exposing the broader cross-border terror ecosystem behind the assault.
