
ANANTNAG: In a major anti-drug crackdown in South Kashmir, Anantnag Police arrested two alleged drug peddlers in separate operations and recovered nearly 5 kilograms of charas powder along with a heroin-like substance from their possession.Police officials said the first operation was carried out during naka checking at Shakras by Police Station Srigufwara, where a most wanted drug peddler identified as Nasir Ahmad Dohbi, son of Gh. Qadir Dohbi and resident of Sallar, was apprehended.During the search operation, police recovered around 5 kg charas powder-like substance, dealing a major blow to the narcotics network operating in the district.Following the seizure, police registered FIR No. 52/2026 under relevant sections of law at Police Station Srigufwara and launched further investigation into the case.In another operation, a team from Police Station Achabal arrested Irshad Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Hassan Bhat, resident of Magraypora, during naka checking near Achabal Petrol Pump.Officials said a heroin-like substance was allegedly recovered from the accused during personal search.A case under FIR No. 41/2026 under Section 8/21 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Achabal, while further investigation is underway.Anantnag Police said the campaign against the drug menace in Kashmir will continue with full force and urged the public to cooperate by sharing information related to drug trafficking and criminal activities.
