Caracas: Venezuela has been devastated by two powerful earthquakes that struck within just 39 seconds of each other, leaving at least 32 people dead and over 700 injured. The deadly twin earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, are being described as the strongest to hit the country in more than a century. The powerful tremors caused widespread destruction across several cities, reducing buildings to rubble, trapping residents under collapsed structures, and forcing emergency teams into massive rescue operations. Survivors searched desperately for missing family members as rescue workers continued efforts through the night.Residents in the capital, Caracas, described the devastation as “like a horror movie.” Maria Alejandra, a local resident, said the once-bustling city looked like an apocalyptic landscape after the earthquakes struck. The earthquakes hit shortly after 6:00 pm local time (3:30 am IST Friday), damaging buildings across Caracas and nearby regions. Authorities also issued tsunami warnings for parts of the Caribbean following the powerful back-to-back tremors.Rescue operations remain underway as officials assess the full extent of the damage, with fears that the death toll and number of injured could rise in the coming hours.
