Mehbooba Mufti Targets NC Govt, Says Electoral Promises to J&K People Remain Unfulfilled

Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the National Conference government during a workers’ convention in Budgam, accusing it of failing to fulfil key election promises and blocking several pro-people measures in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.Addressing party workers, the PDP president thanked the people of Budgam for electing what she called a “young and bold voice” to the legislature and claimed that several public welfare bills backed by the Peoples Democratic Party were repeatedly stalled by the ruling government.Raising the issue of the proposed National Law University in Budgam, Mehbooba Mufti said the project had been promised during the election campaign but was allegedly ignored after the polls. She accused the NC government of failing to deliver on commitments made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.The former chief minister also voiced concern over the alleged “systematic erosion of Urdu language in Jammu and Kashmir,” claiming attempts were being made to weaken Urdu’s role in recruitment examinations, including Naib Tehsildar recruitment tests. She said Urdu remains deeply connected to the cultural and spiritual identity of the region.Highlighting major youth issues in Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti pointed to rising unemployment, increasing mental health concerns among young people, and delays in issuing no-objection certificates to educational institutions operating on government land, including Siraj-ul-Uloom and several other schools.According to her, delays in approvals were negatively impacting students and creating uncertainty around their future education.On the growing issue of drug abuse in Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti demanded strict action against narcotics traffickers while cautioning authorities against targeting innocent families during anti-drug operations.She also raised concerns about prisoners lodged in jails outside Jammu and Kashmir without trial and said efforts were underway through legal channels to seek their relocation closer to home.The PDP chief further criticised government policies affecting brick kiln owners and taxi operators, alleging that transport workers were facing economic hardship because of uneven implementation of Smart City transport services.Alleging widespread corruption in recruitment processes in Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti claimed deserving candidates were being ignored because of political favouritism. She also criticised recent changes in reservation policies, saying many aspirants felt excluded and disappointed by the new system.
