Man Held With Two Hand Grenades During Naka Checking in North Kashmir

Srinagar, August 28: Security forces recovered two hand grenades from a man during a naka checking operation in Wussan Bangil area of Kunzer in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said on Friday.The incident took place during a joint security checking operation launched in the area as part of heightened security measures. According to officials, the man was intercepted by security personnel during the naka checking.The detained individual has been identified as Shakir Nabi Lone, a resident of Hardu Aboora in the Kunzer area of Baramulla.Officials said Lone allegedly attempted to flee after noticing the security personnel deployed for the checking operation. However, the security forces immediately pursued and apprehended him at the spot.A subsequent personal search of the accused led to the recovery of two hand grenades, officials said.The naka checking operation was carried out jointly by personnel from Police Station Kunzer, Special Operations Group (SOG) Kunzer, CRPF 176 Battalion and the Army’s 2 Rashtriya Rifles.The recovery of the grenades has prompted further investigation into the circumstances surrounding their possession and the possible purpose for which they were allegedly being carried.Police have registered FIR No. 115/2026 at Police Station Kunzer under relevant provisions of law. Officials said further investigation into the matter is currently underway.Authorities are examining the circumstances of the incident and gathering further details as part of the ongoing investigation.
