LoP Sunil Sharma Launches Sharp Attack on Omar Abdullah Govt, Alleges Misgovernance in J&K

SRINAGAR: Leader of Opposition Sunil Kumar Sharma on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the Omar Abdullah-led government, accusing it of misgovernance, corruption and ignoring the concerns of common people in Jammu and Kashmir.Taking a dig at the administration, Sharma said the government’s “headquarters appear to lie somewhere between marathon tracks and Gulmarg’s ski slopes,” alleging that ministers are disconnected from ground realities.“If you are searching for Omar Abdullah or his ministers, don’t look for them in the Civil Secretariat. Look for them between marathon tracks and Gulmarg ski slopes,” Sharma remarked. The BJP leader alleged that corruption and administrative failures have peaked under the National Conference government and claimed that the ruling setup is more focused on protecting elite interests than addressing public issues. He criticised the proposed lease extension bill, alleging that it was introduced to benefit wealthy landholders in Kashmir while ordinary citizens continue to struggle with poor roads, lack of healthcare facilities and rising electricity bills.“People were promised 200 units of free electricity, but instead they are burdened with hefty power bills. Hospitals lack doctors and facilities, while roads across Jammu and Kashmir remain in poor condition,” Sharma said.On the liquor ban controversy, Sharma accused Omar Abdullah of making a “U-turn” from promises made during the election campaign and termed the Chief Minister’s remarks on alcohol consumption as “arrogant.”The LoP further intensified his attack by calling the National Conference a “sinking ship,” claiming that several party members are looking to leave the organisation.“This government will not complete its full term. Its downfall has already begun,” Sharma asserted. The remarks come amid growing political tensions in Jammu and Kashmir over governance, infrastructure issues, liquor policy debates and internal political developments within major regional parties.
