LG Manoj Sinha Says 90% of 5,000 Hotels Built in Kashmir Were Illegal, Mentions Hotelier Mushtaq Chaya

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has said that nearly 90% of around 5,000 hotels constructed in Kashmir during the last six years were illegal. Speaking on tourism and investment in the region, Sinha said the sector witnessed investment worth around ₹80,000 crore to ₹1 lakh crore, with nearly 90% of the investment coming from locals and the remaining 10% from outside investors associated with the tour and travel industry. He also referred to hotelier Mushtaq Chaya while making his remarks about recent hotel development in the Valley.The statement has brought renewed attention to hotel construction, tourism investment, regulatory approvals and compliance in Kashmir, particularly amid the rapid expansion of tourism infrastructure across the Valley.
