SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday said India’s civilisational identity is rooted in inclusivity, religious harmony and respect for all faiths, asserting that the country has never imposed any religion or asked anyone to abandon their beliefs.Addressing the Interfaith Dialogue at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar, Sinha said India’s enduring strength lies in its diversity, peaceful coexistence and centuries-old tradition of welcoming people from different faiths with the message, “Come with your faith and live with us.”Highlighting the values of Kashmiriyat, the Lieutenant Governor said Jammu and Kashmir represents India’s shared spiritual and cultural heritage, where compassion, tolerance and mutual respect continue to define society. He described Kashmiriyat as a reflection of Bharatiyata, rooted in unity, coexistence and humanity.Referring to ancient scriptures, Sinha said India’s civilisation has always promoted dialogue over conflict and recognised that different paths ultimately lead to the same truth. He added that the country’s long history of providing refuge to persecuted communities without forcing religious conversion remains one of its defining characteristics. The Lieutenant Governor also praised the contributions of saints, scholars and spiritual leaders, including Amir Khusro, Guru Nanak Dev and Lalleshwari, for strengthening India’s composite culture and Kashmir’s tradition of communal harmony.Emphasising that temples, mosques, shrines, gurdwaras and churches together symbolise Kashmir’s inclusive ethos, Sinha said the administration remains committed to ensuring peaceful observance of all religious events, including the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.Calling for greater unity, mutual trust and respect, the Lieutenant Governor said India’s civilisational wisdom offers hope in a world facing conflict and intolerance, urging people across Jammu and Kashmir to work together for peace, harmony and inclusive development.
