SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has reportedly reduced the size of his official convoy by nearly half following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent appeal for austerity and fuel conservation measures amid rising global energy concerns.Officials at Lok Bhawan confirmed that the decision was taken in line with the Prime Minister’s call for efficient governance, reduced fuel consumption and responsible use of government resources.“The move reflects the Prime Minister’s emphasis on austerity measures and fuel-saving practices during official movement and administrative functioning,” officials said.According to sources, the Lieutenant Governor decided to downsize the convoy while ensuring that all essential security arrangements and mandatory protection protocols remain fully intact. The decision is being viewed as a symbolic and practical step towards promoting fuel conservation and reducing unnecessary government expenditure during a period of rising crude oil prices and global economic uncertainty linked to the ongoing West Asia crisis.Prime Minister Narendra Modi had recently urged citizens and government institutions to adopt austerity measures, minimise fuel consumption and encourage efficient governance practices across all levels of administration. The convoy reduction by the J&K Lieutenant Governor has now sparked discussion across political and administrative circles, with many viewing it as an effort to set an example in implementing fuel-saving initiatives.
