Kerala Man Arrested Under UAPA for Allegedly Supporting Pahalgam Terror Attack on Social Media

Idukki: A 26-year-old Kerala man has been arrested and booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for allegedly posting an anti-national comment on social media in support of the Pahalgam terror attack, police said.The accused, identified as Mohammed Sanoop, a resident of North Paravur in Ernakulam district, was taken into custody by Karipur Police in the early hours of Friday after arriving at Karipur International Airport from Saudi Arabia, where he had been working.Following his arrest, Sanoop was handed over to Muttom Police in Idukki district, where the case had been registered based on a complaint filed by Yuva Morcha State Secretary Adeena Bharathi.According to the complaint, the accused allegedly posted an objectionable and anti-national comment under a social media post related to the daughter of Ramachandran, the Malayali tourist who was killed in the Pahalgam terror attack. A screenshot of the comment was submitted to police as evidence nearly a year ago.Investigators said the alleged comment was posted while Sanoop was abroad. After a detailed investigation, police concluded that the offence warranted action under the UAPA, leading to his arrest upon his return to India.The accused was produced before the Muttom Court, which remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody. Police said further investigation into the case is underway.
