RAMBAN, May 29: In a significant development in a Ramban POCSO case, police have apprehended a juvenile following the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl in Ukhral’s Bingara area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district, officials said on Thursday.According to Ramban Police, the action was initiated immediately after the victim’s family lodged a formal complaint regarding the alleged incident. Following the complaint, police registered FIR No. 44/2026 under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and launched an investigation into the Ukhral minor girl case.Officials said the juvenile suspect was subsequently apprehended as part of the ongoing J&K crime investigation. The police have not disclosed further details due to the sensitive nature of the POCSO case in Ramban.As part of the investigation, the minor girl was shifted to District Hospital Ramban, where a medical examination was conducted in accordance with legal procedures applicable in child protection cases.Police said the Ramban sexual assault case remains under investigation and all statutory safeguards under the POCSO Act are being strictly followed to ensure the welfare and protection of the child.The case has drawn attention across the region, with authorities reiterating their commitment to swift action in cases involving crimes against children and violations of child protection laws in Jammu and Kashmir.
