JKCA SGM Declares Secretary’s Orders Null and Void, Reaffirms Javid Ahmad Kitab as President

SRINAGAR: In a major development within the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), the Association’s Special General Meeting (SGM) on Saturday declared all orders, notifications, resolutions and communications issued by the Honorary Secretary since May 21 as null and void, while reaffirming Javid Ahmad Kitab as the legitimate President of the JKCA.According to an official JKCA statement, the SGM, held at Hotel Imperial, Nehru Park, Srinagar, also declared the June 25 resolution suspending the President and the June 26 notification appointing an officiating President as unconstitutional, illegal and without jurisdiction. The General Body resolved that the Association’s affairs would immediately revert to the status quo under the leadership of President Javid Ahmad Kitab.The meeting, attended by affiliated cricket clubs and life members, adopted several resolutions aimed at restoring constitutional governance, transparency, accountability and administrative stability within the JKCA.Among the key decisions, the General Body approved the appointment of retired Justice Deepak Verma as the JKCA Ombudsman and authorised the President to appoint an Ethics Officer to strengthen institutional oversight.The SGM also cleared major administrative reforms, including transparent recruitment for senior posts such as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) through an open advertisement and interview process based on merit, qualifications and experience.Other significant resolutions included framing a Code of Conduct for players, members and office-bearers, making it mandatory for JKCA-sponsored BCCI-qualified coaches to serve the Association for ten years, and approving funding for the Cricket Players’ Association.The General Body further clarified that the Indian Cricket Association has no constitutional authority to nominate members to the JKCA Apex Council. It also empowered President Javid Ahmad Kitab to appoint a private secretary, engage legal counsel, determine monthly allowances and take an appropriate decision regarding the life membership of Ajay Sharma after verification.The meeting began with a two-minute silence to honour former cricketers Bhardwaj, Rajinder Singh, Pawan Gupta and Vikram Rathore.Addressing the gathering, JKCA President Javid Ahmad Kitab said leading an Association that recently lifted the Ranji Trophy was a matter of pride and responsibility. He urged all stakeholders to uphold the JKCA Constitution and court directions to ensure the continued growth of cricket in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
