
SRINAGAR: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued a weather alert for Jammu and Kashmir, forecasting a prolonged spell of rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across several parts of the Union Territory over the next few days.According to the MeT Department, June 16–17 is expected to witness partly to generally cloudy skies with light rain, brief intense showers, thunder and gusty winds at scattered locations.From June 18 to June 22, weather conditions are likely to remain generally cloudy, with many areas experiencing light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, hailstorms, lightning and strong winds.The forecast indicates that June 23–25 will also remain partly to generally cloudy, with chances of light rain and brief showers at a few places.The weather department has advised people to stay away from loose structures, electric poles, overhead wires and old trees during thunderstorms and strong winds. Authorities have also recommended the temporary suspension of boating and Shikara services during adverse weather conditions.Officials warned that intense rain spells may trigger flash floods, landslides and mudslides at isolated locations, urging residents and travellers to remain cautious and follow weather advisories.
