Srinagar, October 9: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to experience predominantly dry weather until October 20, although isolated areas may receive light rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds over the next few days, Director of the Meteorological Centre Srinagar, Mukhtar Ahmad, said on Friday.According to Ahmad, a brief spell of precipitation is possible around October 10, while similar weather conditions may develop on October 13 and 14 under the influence of a weak Western Disturbance. He said a spell of precipitation had already occurred around October 8, during which light snowfall was also recorded in some areas. Another spell of light precipitation is expected in several districts around October 10.Ahmad added that the weather may remain partly unsettled on October 13 and 14, with isolated districts likely to experience light rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds due to the approaching Western Disturbance. However, he clarified that no major spell of rainfall or snowfall is expected across Jammu and Kashmir until October 20, including the higher reaches of the region. The MeT official said there was currently no significant weather activity warranting a major warning. Nevertheless, people have been advised to remain cautious during periods of thunderstorms and gusty winds, particularly around October 10 and between October 13 and 14.### Farmers, Travellers Advised to Take PrecautionsAhmad advised farmers to continue harvesting operations over the coming days, while ensuring that harvested crops and agricultural produce are stored safely to avoid potential losses from brief spells of adverse weather.Travellers have also been urged to follow advisories issued by the administration and the traffic department, particularly while travelling through vulnerable areas or routes that may be affected by changing weather conditions.### Daytime Temperatures Likely to Decline GraduallyDaytime temperatures in the Kashmir plains are currently hovering between 27 and 28 degrees Celsius, while higher-altitude areas are recording temperatures of around 20 to 22 degrees Celsius. In the Jammu division, maximum daytime temperatures are ranging between 28 and 30 degrees Celsius.Ahmad said temperatures are expected to decline gradually as the autumn season progresses. However, the prevailing dry weather conditions are likely to slow the pace of the decline. He noted that although seasonal changes would bring temperatures down over the coming days, a sharp or rapid fall in daytime temperatures is unlikely under the current weather pattern. The MeT forecast indicates that Jammu and Kashmir will largely experience stable weather conditions until October 20, with only brief spells of light precipitation and localised thunderstorms expected in between.
