SRINAGAR: All government and recognised private schools across Jammu and Kashmir reopened on Monday, with the School Education Department resuming regular academic activities following an improvement in weather conditions.Officials said the decision to reopen schools in J&K was taken after reviewing the latest weather forecasts, which showed significant improvement following days of heavy rainfall, flash flood warnings and flood concerns.The summer vacation in Kashmir Division and winter zones of Jammu Division, initially scheduled from July 6 to July 19 due to an intense heatwave, was extended twice. The break was first extended until July 22 because of persistent high temperatures and later until July 26 amid heavy rainfall and adverse weather.With conditions improving, authorities directed schools to resume regular classes from Monday. Education Minister Sakina Itoo had earlier indicated that schools would reopen after the extended vacation, and the School Education Department has now implemented the reopening schedule as planned.
