
SRINAGAR: In a significant development for hundreds of contractual teachers, the Jammu and Kashmir Government has initiated the process of examining representations submitted by School Education Department contractual teachers engaged in 2017 and 2018, who have sought continuation of their services.According to an official communication issued by the School Education Department, Civil Secretariat, the Director of School Education, Jammu and Kashmir, has been directed to examine the matter and submit detailed information to facilitate the government’s decision-making process.The communication (No. Edu-NGK/315/2021-01-(85095) dated June 16, 2026) states that representations received from contractual teachers appointed during 2017–18 have been forwarded for detailed examination.The department has sought comprehensive details, including the total number of contractual teachers, the current requirement of their services, the terms and conditions of their engagement, and other relevant information to assess their demand for continuation.The official communication was issued by Braham Raj, JKAS, Deputy Secretary to the Government, School Education Department.Following the directive, the Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ), through Communication No. DSEJ/NG/Tr/C.No.9088409/30004-13 dated July 3, 2026, forwarded the instructions to all Chief Education Officers (CEOs) across the Jammu Division for necessary action and submission of the required information.The move has raised hopes among 2017–18 contractual teachers in Jammu and Kashmir, who have long been seeking the continuation of their services in the School Education Department.
