Srinagar, Aug 6: The Jammu and Kashmir Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday clarified that objectionable and defamatory slogans raised by a few individuals during a rally in Anantnag do not reflect the party’s ideology, official stand, or the purpose of the event.
The clarification was issued on the directions of BJP General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Koul. Party spokesperson Altaf Thakur said the BJP strongly condemns defamatory remarks against any individual and remains committed to upholding the dignity and respect of women.
“Our party has always stood for the honour and empowerment of women. The BJP’s commitment is reflected in landmark initiatives such as the 33 per cent reservation for women. Any objectionable slogans raised by certain individuals were their personal expressions and should not be linked to the BJP or its leadership,” Thakur said.
He emphasised that the party believes in issue-based politics, democratic values, and constitutional principles, adding that personal remarks or defamatory statements have no place in BJP’s political culture.
The BJP also reiterated its support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of women’s empowerment, highlighting the Women’s Reservation Act as a significant step toward increasing women’s representation in Parliament and state legislatures.
The clarification comes after videos circulating on social media allegedly showed some participants at the Anantnag Housing Colony rally raising objectionable slogans. The BJP maintained that such remarks cannot be attributed to the party as an organisation and reaffirmed its commitment to promoting the social, political, and economic empowerment of women.
