Jammu, June 18: In a major anti-encroachment operation, the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) reclaimed nearly four kanals of prime land valued at around Rs 10 crore near Jammu Railway Station after demolishing more than 30 unauthorised structures. The demolition drive was carried out on June 17 opposite Mangal Market and behind Vaishnavi Dham, one of the city’s key commercial zones. The operation targeted illegal encroachments, including dhabas, roadside establishments, and commercial units that had allegedly occupied JDA-owned land for several years.According to JDA officials, the action was taken following the completion of all legal formalities. The occupants had sought regularisation of the encroached land; however, their plea was examined and subsequently rejected by the competent authority, clearing the way for the restoration of the land to the agency. The reclaimed land, located in a strategically important area close to Jammu Railway Station, is estimated to be worth nearly Rs 10 crore. Officials said the anti-encroachment drive is part of JDA’s ongoing efforts to recover public property and curb illegal occupation of government land. The authority reiterated its commitment to protecting public assets and warned against unauthorised construction and encroachment on government land across Jammu.
