Forest Official Suspended After Illegal Deodar Timber Seizure in Jammu and Kashmir

SRINAGAR: A forest department employee has been suspended following the seizure of illegally transported deodar timber in the Bhadarwah area of Doda district.According to officials, acting on credible inputs, a joint team of the Forest Protection Force along with territorial staff from Neru Range intercepted a TATA Mobile vehicle (JK02B-6463) carrying 20 deodar green scants, totaling approximately 54.44 cubic feet. The operation was conducted during the intervening night of April 21 and 22 in Jalga village, falling under Compartment 3/N.During the कार्रवाई, Mushtaq Ahmed Batt, the in-charge Beat Guard of Jai 2nd Beat, was also found traveling along the same route in his private vehicle. Authorities recovered a mechanical cutter from his possession, raising suspicion of involvement.Officials stated that the exact origin of the seized timber is still under investigation, with possibilities pointing toward illegal extraction from either Chiralla or Neru Range.Pending inquiry, the Beat Guard has been placed under immediate suspension and attached to the Divisional Forest Office in Bhadarwah. A detailed probe has been ordered to trace the source of the timber, determine accountability, and initiate further legal proceedings.
