SRINAGAR: Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid on Tuesday hinted at stepping away from active electoral politics while making an emotional appeal for peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir during his father’s funeral gathering in Handwara.Addressing mourners at his ancestral village in Mawer Payeen, Handwara, Er Rashid said the people of Jammu and Kashmir have suffered for years and stressed the need for peace, unity, and reconciliation across the region.The jailed Member of Parliament, who recently received interim bail from the Delhi High Court to attend his father’s last rites, suggested that political power was no longer his main priority and indicated he may reconsider his future role in electoral politics.His remarks came during the funeral of his father, Haji Khazir Mohammad Sheikh, where hundreds of people from different parts of Kashmir gathered to offer condolences.Er Rashid’s statement has triggered widespread debate in political and social circles across Jammu and Kashmir, especially as he remains one of the prominent political voices from North Kashmir.During his emotional address, the MP urged people to focus on peace and stability, saying the suffering of ordinary citizens must end.
