Kupwara, July 8: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch J&K has filed a chargesheet against a former Patwari, currently serving as a Naib Tehsildar, for allegedly tampering with official revenue records in an attempt to fraudulently claim ancestral land in Kupwara. The chargesheet was presented before the Court of the Sub-Judge/Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Kupwara, in connection with FIR No. 33/2021. The accused has been identified as Leyaket Ali Khan, son of Mehboobullah Khan and a resident of Babapora Haihama, Kupwara.According to an official statement, the case stems from a complaint alleging manipulation of revenue records to transfer jointly owned ancestral land in Halqa Haihama/Gundi Sana in favour of the accused and his brother. The investigation revealed that while serving as Patwari, the accused allegedly misused his official position by making false entries in Khasra Girdawari registers, replacing official record pages, and forging revenue documents to falsely establish ownership and possession of the land.Officials said the Revenue Department’s timely intervention prevented the alleged attempt to secure wrongful ownership. However, the investigation found sufficient evidence to establish offences under Sections 167, 417, 466 and 468 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC).Following the completion of the investigation, the Crime Branch submitted the chargesheet before the competent court for judicial proceedings. The EOW Kashmir has urged citizens to remain vigilant against economic and revenue-related fraud and report such incidents to the SSP, EOW Kashmir.
