Srinagar, August 22: A departmental store was gutted in a fire incident at Bagh-e-Mehtab on the outskirts of Srinagar early Saturday morning, officials said.
According to reports, the fire broke out at the commercial establishment during the morning hours and quickly engulfed the premises. Locals who noticed the flames immediately alerted the Fire and Emergency Services.
Fire tenders from Rangreth and Rawalpora were rushed to the spot. Firefighters launched a major firefighting operation and eventually brought the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures.
No injuries were reported in the incident. The cause of the fire and the extent of property damage are being assessed.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over fire safety in commercial establishments across Srinagar and Kashmir, particularly in densely populated areas where fires can quickly spread to adjoining buildings.
