CWC Summons News Portal Over Minor’s Interview Without Parental Consent.

Srinagar, July 2: In a significant development highlighting child rights and ethical media reporting in Kashmir, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Srinagar, has summoned the authorised representative of Fair Voice News over allegations that a minor was interviewed and recorded without obtaining informed consent from the child’s parent or legal guardian and without the knowledge or permission of the concerned school authorities. According to the summons, the Editor/Authorised Representative has been directed to appear before the Committee on July 3, 2026, along with the reporter, cameraperson and all media personnel present during the interview. The CWC stated that if the allegations are established, the incident could amount to a violation of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, as well as the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) guidelines safeguarding a child’s identity, privacy, dignity and best interests. The Committee has also sought a written explanation detailing the circumstances under which the interview was conducted and has directed the news organisation to produce the recorded interview, published or broadcast material, consent documents, if any, and all related records. The summons further warns that failure to appear before the Committee or submit the required documents may invite appropriate legal action in accordance with the law.
