SRINAGAR: The viral political satire movement Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has crossed the massive milestone of 12 million Instagram followers within days of its launch, emerging as one of the fastest-growing social media movements in India.
According to platform figures as of May 21, the official Instagram handle @cockroachjantaparty has surged past several major political parties in terms of online reach and engagement.
The movement now reportedly has more followers than the official Instagram accounts of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). BJP’s official handle currently has around 8.7 million followers, while AAP’s account stands at nearly 1.9 million. The Congress party’s Instagram handle remains ahead with approximately 13.2 million followers.
The Cockroach Janata Party, widely described online as a youth-driven political satire campaign, first surfaced on social media on May 16 and quickly exploded across platforms including Instagram and X.
Its Instagram account, launched on May 17, witnessed explosive growth within hours, with thousands of users sharing memes, reels, and satirical political content linked to the movement.
The movement’s bio describes it as “A political front of the youth, by the youth, for the youth,” a slogan that has resonated widely with young social media users.
The rapid rise of the Cockroach Janata Party has sparked massive debate online, with many calling it one of the biggest viral political satire trends India has seen in recent years.
