CM Omar Abdullah Rejects ‘Backdoor Appointment’ Allegations, Says PDP Spreading Misleading Narratives

SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday strongly rejected allegations of “backdoor appointments” levelled against the National Conference government, accusing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Mehbooba Mufti of spreading baseless claims to mislead the public and divert attention from development works in Jammu and Kashmir.Speaking to reporters in Ganderbal, Omar Abdullah challenged the opposition to present even a single proven case of illegal recruitment under his government.“There is a clear difference between outsourcing and backdoor appointments. Outsourcing is carried out under proper government schemes and administrative procedures,” the Chief Minister said.He dismissed allegations linked to transfer postings and appointments as politically motivated, clarifying that Shami Oberoi serves only as the treasurer of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and does not hold any ministerial position. The Chief Minister accused the PDP of repeatedly raising “false narratives” to shift focus away from governance, infrastructure development and welfare initiatives being implemented across the Union Territory.Highlighting ongoing projects in Ganderbal, Omar Abdullah said development activities have accelerated in the constituency since his electoral victory, with special focus on healthcare, infrastructure and public services. He announced that advanced medical equipment would soon be installed at District Hospital Ganderbal, making diagnostic tests available at subsidised rates for the public.According to the Chief Minister, tests that currently cost between Rs 3,000 and Rs 4,000 at private facilities would now be available for nearly Rs 500 to Rs 800 at government healthcare institutions.Omar Abdullah said his government remains committed to balanced development, youth welfare and strengthening public infrastructure across Jammu and Kashmir, adding that regular field visits are being conducted to monitor progress and ensure timely completion of projects.
