Baramulla Police Makes DIO-Issued Media ID Cards Mandatory for Entry to Official Events

SRINAGAR: In a significant move to tighten media access at high-security events, the District Police Headquarters (DPHQ) Baramulla has made it mandatory for journalists to carry a valid identity card issued by the District Information Officer (DIO), Baramulla, to gain entry to official functions, VVIP/VIP visits, religious gatherings, public events and other locations requiring security deployment. The directive, issued by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla Gurinderpal Singh, IPS, has come into immediate effect and will remain in force until further orders.According to the official order, the decision has been taken to strengthen security arrangements, streamline access control, and ensure proper verification of media personnel during official programmes, VIP movements, religious events and other occasions where police deployment is required. The order directs all officers and security personnel deployed at entry and access control points to strictly verify the credentials of every journalist before granting access. It clearly states that no individual claiming to represent print, electronic, digital or social media organisations will be allowed entry unless they produce a valid DIO-issued media identity card issued by the District Information Officer, Baramulla. The SSP has also instructed supervisory officers to ensure strict implementation of the order by all personnel under their command, warning that any lapse in enforcement or unauthorised access will be viewed seriously and dealt with accordingly. The new directive is expected to standardise media accreditation and strengthen security management during official and high-profile events across Baramulla district.
