
Anantnag, July 13: In a major breakthrough against financial fraud, Anantnag Police have arrested a man allegedly involved in a ₹12 lakh gold coin scam in which a Srinagar resident was reportedly cheated after being lured with the promise of purchasing gold coins at heavily discounted rates. The accused, identified as Sajad Ahmad Beigh, son of Lassa Beigh and a resident of Draway, Larnoo, was arrested in connection with FIR No. 27/2026 registered at Police Station Larnoo under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). According to police, the victim was persuaded to hand over ₹12 lakh during a planned transaction, but was allegedly intercepted at a naka where the purported gold coins were taken away as part of a well-planned conspiracy, leaving him defrauded. During the investigation, police gathered substantial oral and technical evidence linking the accused and his associates to the crime. The anticipatory bail granted to the accused was successfully challenged and cancelled by the court, following which he was taken into custody. Police said efforts are underway to trace and arrest the remaining accused and uncover the full extent of the gold coin fraud network. Anantnag Police have also advised the public to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to gold investment scams, fake gold coin offers, discounted precious metal deals, and other fraudulent financial schemes, urging citizens to verify such claims before making any financial transactions and to immediately report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
