
Srinagar, July 22: A Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel was killed after militants opened fire on security forces during a cordon and search operation (CASO) in the Lal Chowk area of Anantnag district on Wednesday, officials said.According to a senior police official, the operation was launched after security agencies received specific intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in the area. Acting swiftly, teams from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Special Operations Group (SOG), and other security forces cordoned off the locality and began a search operation.As the operation progressed, the hiding militants opened indiscriminate fire on the security personnel, triggering a brief but intense exchange of gunfire.During the initial firing, police personnel Ashiq Hussain sustained critical injuries. He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.The encounter was still underway at the time of filing this report. Additional reinforcements have been rushed to the area to strengthen the security cordon and prevent the militants from escaping.Senior security officials are closely monitoring the operation, while the entire locality remains under a tight security cordon.
