Untreated waste from Industrial Estate Rangreth flowing into flood channel: Govt

Srinagar, Oct 29: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has confirmed that untreated industrial waste from Industrial Estate (I.E) Rangreth and waste from JAKLI Army establishment are being discharged into flood channel passing through Rawalpora to Peerbagh, near Hill View Colony Rawalpora.In response to starred question tabled by MLA Mushtaq Guroo, the Minister In-charge Industries & Commerce Department stated that a Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) with a capacity of 1.0 MLD has been constructed by SIDCO at Rangreth.The plant employs Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) technology for treating industrial waste. Additionally, a sewerage drainage pipeline has been laid to carry treated water to the existing UEED/City Drainage system.The Minister informed that the CETP has already obtained a power connection from the Power Development Department (PDD) and is currently under trial run, while Environmental Clearance is being processed with the Pollution Control Board (PCB). Testing of the inlet and outlet parameters of the treatment plant will be carried out upon completion of the trial run.Assuring necessary measures, the government said the CETP, once fully operational, will ensure that industrial effluents are treated within permissible limits before being discharged into nearby water bodies, thereby mitigating risks to public health and the environment.
