Traffic Halted After Suspicious Object Found on Srinagar–Bandipora Road, No IED Recovered

Bandipora, Oct 26 : Traffic movement on the Srinagar–Bandipora road was briefly suspended on Saturday after security forces detected a suspicious object near Chimpazpora area of Ajas in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district. The alert was raised near a road stretch close to the premises of the 45 Battalion CRPF and Police Post Ajas.

Officials said the suspected object, initially believed to be an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), was spotted by patrolling personnel during routine area inspection. Following the discovery, the area was immediately cordoned off and traffic on the national highway was halted as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety.

Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) teams of police and security forces were rushed to the spot to examine the object. After thorough inspection, the teams confirmed that no explosive material or IED was found, and the object turned out to be harmless.

The road was later reopened for vehicular movement after clearance from the BDS unit. “Traffic was stopped only as a safety precaution. The suspicious object did not contain any explosive material. The situation is normal now,” An official said. [KNT]
