Stray Dog Menace Sparks Fear Among Locals in Srinagar’s Jogi Lankar Area

Srinagar, Nov 9. Locals in the Jogi Lankar area of Srinagar have expressed deep concern over the growing menace of stray dogs, saying the situation has become so alarming that people fear to step outside their homes during early morning and evening hours.

Locals told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that packs of stray dogs have taken over lanes and by-lanes of the area, posing a serious threat to pedestrians, school-going children, and worshippers heading to mosques for Fajr and Isha prayers.

“Children are terrified while going to school, and elders hesitate to attend prayers in mosques. The presence of aggressive dogs at every corner has made daily life extremely difficult,” said a local inhabitant.

The locals alleged that despite repeated complaints, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has failed to take any effective measures to control the stray dog population in the area. They urged the authorities to immediately launch a sterilization and relocation drive to ensure public safety.

“SMC must act before someone gets seriously injured. We have been living in constant fear,” said another local.

The inhabitants have appealed to the SMC Commissioner to personally intervene and deploy teams to address the issue on a priority basis.
