As the cold wave strengthens its grip across Kashmir with the advent of Chillai Kalan, pushing sub-zero temperatures further down in the Valley, the weather is expected to turn wet towards the end of the year 2025.According to a MeT forecast issued on Saturday, light rain and snowfall are expected at scattered places in the Valley by the end of this year.On December 30, as per the forecast, there is a possibility of light rain/snowfall. On the following day, December 31, the weather is expected to bring more precipitation to the Valley, likely causing light to moderate rain and snowfall at many places, especially in a few higher reaches of North and Central Kashmir.The weather is likely to remain the same on the eve of the New Year till January 02, 2026.Dry and cloudy conditions will return on January 03 and are expected to remain in place through the second half of the first week of the New Year till January 09.The white-out conditions are likely to fade away after another wet spell takes place in the Valley. Visibility is expected to improve significantly across the Union Territory.Minimum temperatures plummeted further at most places in Kashmir, indicating that Chillai Kalan has already begun to show off its true colours.Pahalgam and Sonmarg both recorded the coldest night in Kashmir at minus 4.8 degrees Celsius, followed by Shopian at minus 4.7 degrees Celsius.As per data issued by Kashmir Weather, Srinagar, the summer capital of J&K recorded a minimum temperature of minus 2.6 degrees Celsius, a couple of degrees lower than the previous night.In Central Kashmir, Budgam and Ganderbal recorded minus 2.7 and minus 1.8 degrees Celsius, respectively.South Kashmir also experienced chilly nights, with Anantnag at minus 3.6 degrees Celsius, Shopian at minus 4.7 degrees Celsius and Kulgam at minus 1.9 degrees Celsius.Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora recorded minimum temperatures of minus 2.5 degrees Celsius, minus 3.8 degrees Celsius and minus 2.8 degrees Celsius, respectively.One of Kashmir’s famous tourist resorts, Gulmarg, froze at minus 4.2 degrees Celsius.
