Srinagar, Mar 19 : The Shawwal crescent was not sighted anywhere across Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday evening, and Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Saturday, March 21, Grand Mufti J&K Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam Farooqi said.
Speaking to GNS, the Grand Mufti said that his office had sought testimonies from various parts of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh regarding the sighting of the Shawwal moon.
“Despite extensive efforts and outreach, no credible testimony was received from any part or quarter till late Thursday evening,” he said adding Friday will be as such observed as the 30th and final day of the holy month of Ramadan, following which Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Saturday.
“The decision was taken after due consultations with acknowledged and reputed scholars from across the region,” he added. (GNS)
