Salary Release Likely in Day or Two: SMC Directs Employees to Resume Duties, Warns of Action Against Protesters

Srinagar, Feb 11. The Srinagar Municipal Corporation has directed all its officials and employees to resume work immediately and warned of strict action against those found participating in demonstrations within its premises.

In an order issued by the competent authority, officials were instructed to report to their respective offices and duty stations without delay. The order stated that any person found loitering around or involved in unnecessary and unlawful demonstrations in the SMC premises shall face action as per law.

The administration termed the ongoing protest illegal, particularly in view of the claim that matters relating to salary disbursement have been resolved. Unit Heads and Ward Officers have been directed to ensure attendance of staff under their jurisdiction and submit compliance reports. They have also been asked to furnish a list of officials who defy the instructions to the Commissioner, SMC.

The order further stated that union leaders have been advised to call off the strike as salaries are expected to be released within a day or two.

Notably, employees of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation have been protesting for the past week over unpaid salaries, affecting routine functioning in several areas.
