Srinagar, Oct 31 The ambitious Water Supply Scheme (WSS) for Sopore Town, sanctioned under the AMRUT 2.0 programme at an estimated cost of Rs 73.38 crore, has inched closer to execution with the completion of the technical evaluation of tenders. The case will now be placed before the contract committee for final approval.
In a written reply to a question raised by MLA Sopore Irshad Rasool Kar, the government informed that the Jal Shakti Department (JSD) is actively working to strengthen and expand the water supply network across Sopore constituency.
According to the reply, augmentation works of the WSS Sidiq Colony and Model Town, costing Rs 5.35 crore under the UT Capex, are presently in progress. Several localities including Badshah Masjid Mohalla (Batpora), Khushal Colony, inner lanes of Ningli, and Ibrahim Colony are being covered under the District Capex during the current financial year. The Chakroday Khan area is to be augmented under the UT Capex, while a 200mm DI shunt line has been proposed for Ningli, Hathishah, and Shrakwara under the Constituency Development Scheme (CDS) of MLA Irshad Rasool Kar.
To address temporary shortages, the department has pressed into service both departmental and private water tankers across Sopore.
The government further revealed that out of 16 water supply schemes sanctioned under the Jal Jeevan Mission for Sopore, 9 have already been completed.
Under the WSS Sidiq Colony and Model Town, the source and intake sump-cum-pump house stand completed, and pipeline laying works covering Shalimar Colony, Qadriya Mohalla, and Umar Mohalla have been finished. The rising main from Stage-I to Model Town is 90 percent complete, with a minor portion pending road-cut clearance.
The department also stated that the process of electrical inspection and connection is underway, while a temporary power connection has been provided for testing purposes.
