Jammu, March 16. Police in Jammu district have solved a theft case registered at Police Station Akhnoor and recovered 50 stolen LPG cylinders during an investigation that also led to the arrest of a suspect, officials said.
The case had been registered last year following a complaint regarding the theft of LPG gas cylinders.
Officials said the investigation was carried out by a team from Police Post Jourian which tracked down a suspect during the probe.
The accused, identified as Zakir Hussain, a resident of Kotli Mian Fateh in R.S. Pura was apprehended by the police during the investigation.
During questioning, the suspect allegedly confessed to his involvement in the theft case and disclosed the location where the stolen cylinders had been hidden, officials said.
Acting on the disclosure, police recovered 50 LPG cylinders of an Indian brand from the location pointed out by the accused.
Officials said the cylinders were identified by the complainant on the spot during the recovery operation.
Police also seized a Tata Mobile vehicle bearing registration number JK02BD-2805 which, according to investigators, had been used in the commission of the theft.
The accused has been formally arrested and further investigation into the case is underway, officials said.
Police said additional leads are being examined to determine whether others were involved in the theft or if similar incidents are linked to the case. [KNT]
