Banihal, Feb 10: One person was killed while two others including a woman sustained injuries after an electric auto-rickshaw plunged into a deep ravine near Nachilana on the Nachlana–Khari road in Sub-Division Banihal on Tuesday evening.According to sources, the electric auto was on its way from Khari towards Banihal when the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll down nearly 200 feet into a deep gorge. Soon after the accident, local residents, Army personnel from the nearby 23 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) camp, police, and volunteers of the Quick Response Team (QRT) Khari launched a joint rescue operation and successfully evacuated all occupants from the ravine.
SHO Banihal, Ashiq Bukhari, told Greater Kashmir that the injured were first provided first aid at the Army Camp Nachilana and later shifted to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Banihal. From there, all three injured were referred to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag for advanced treatment.He said that one of the injured, identified as Ghulam Hassan Sohil, son of Lasu Sohil, aged about 60 years and a resident of Zanchous Chaknarwah, Banihal, who had sustained a critical head injury, succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to GMC Anantnag.
The other two injured were identified as Fatima Begum, wife of Ghulam Hassan Sohil, aged 57 years, who suffered multiple injuries and fractures; and Mohd Akram, son of Abdul Hamid, aged 32 years, the driver of the auto-rickshaw and a resident of Sila Ganote, Ramban, who sustained a severe head injury. Both are currently undergoing treatment at GMC Anantnag.Police have taken cognizance of the incident and further investigation is underway.
