Srinagar, Sep 02: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) staged a protest in Srinagar on Wednesday, demanding that the BJP-led Central Government fulfil its commitments on the restoration of J&K statehood and constitutional guarantees for the Union Territory. The NC protest in Srinagar was taken out towards the BJP headquarters, with party workers raising slogans and carrying placards demanding the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir statehood and protection of the rights of the people.NC chief spokesperson and MLA Tanvir Sadiq said the protest was aimed at reminding the BJP leadership of commitments made to the people of J&K in Parliament and before the Supreme Court following the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.Sadiq said the party wanted the Centre to fulfil its promises regarding J&K statehood, constitutional safeguards and rights of the people. The NC leader also highlighted reservation and employment issues concerning J&K youth, calling for urgent action on the rationalisation of posts and job opportunities. He said the protest was also linked to the political and constitutional changes that followed the Article 370 abrogation, with the party seeking restoration of rights and the mandate of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.Sadiq clarified that the march was not aimed at the BJP’s local leadership but was intended to convey the party’s demands to the Central Government in New Delhi.
