MLA Farooq Shah Flags Off Dragon Boats for Dal Lake Cleanliness DriveSrinagar, October 2:On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti 2025, the Jammu & Kashmir Dragon Boat Association (JKDBA) organised a cleanliness drive in the iconic Dal Lake, reaffirming its commitment to environmental protection and community participation.Hon’ble MLA Gulmarg, Farooq Ahmad Shah, was the Chief Guest and flagged off the dragon boats to formally launch the initiative. Speaking to the media, he commended JKDBA’s efforts and pledged full support in promoting dragon boating across J&K, envisioning it as an inclusive sport capable of producing national and international medal winners.The event was attended by M.S. Punoo (IPS Retd.), President JKDBA, Er. Aamir Ali, Senior Vice President JKDBA, Er. Muzamil Rafiqi, Superintending Engineer LCMA, along with JKDBA office bearers, Coach Farooq Ahmad Bhat, gold medalist Zain ul Abidin, students, media representatives, and local enthusiasts.Participants, equipped with gloves and biodegradable bags, collected plastic waste and other debris from the lakefront and adjoining areas, sending a strong message of environmental conservation, collective responsibility, and sustainable tourism.JKDBA also announced that such cleanliness drives will be conducted regularly, urging citizens to actively contribute towards keeping Dal Lake clean and beautiful.
