Calls for Safeguarding Spaces for Sports and Recreation
Srinagar, Oct 1: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday expressed concern over reports that public playfields in Srinagar may be taken over by security forces.
During visits to Tabela Ground in Chattabal and MET Ground in Baghat Barzulla, Mufti said that residents, particularly the youth, fear losing access to these open spaces which are regularly used for sports and recreational activities.
She cautioned that the loss of such spaces could deprive young people of one of the few avenues available for community engagement, physical activity, and social interaction.
Urging Army and Police authorities to reconsider any such plans, Mufti stated that preserving public grounds for civilian use was essential to maintaining opportunities and a sense of belonging for the younger generation in the Valley.
