Mehbooba Mufti Raises Safety, Evacuation of Kashmiri Students With Iranian Ambassador in Delhi

New Delhi, March 9: Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday raised the issue of safety and evacuation of Kashmiri students stranded in Iran during her visit to the Iranian Cultural Centre and Embassy in New Delhi.

Mufti said she met Iranian representatives to convey condolences to the people of Iran and also discussed concerns regarding Kashmiri students studying in the country amid the prevailing situation.

PDP chief visited the Iranian Cultural Centre and Embassy in the national capital to offer condolences and pay tributes to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on his martyrdom.

During the visit, Mufti also took up the matter of Kashmiri students currently studying in Iran and urged authorities to ensure their safety and facilitate their early return.

“I visited the Iranian Cultural Centre and Embassy in Delhi to offer my deepest condolences to the people of Iran in these difficult times and paid tributes to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on his martyrdom,” Mehbooba Mufti said in a statement.

She said the issue of students stranded in Iran was raised with the Iranian Ambassador during the interaction.

“Also took up the issue of Kashmiri students stranded in Iran with the Hon’ble Ambassador and urged for their safety and early return,” she said.

Several students from Jammu and Kashmir are currently pursuing medical and other professional courses in different universities across Iran.

Families of these students have recently expressed concern over their safety and appealed to the Government of India to facilitate their return or relocation to safer places if required.

The issue has also drawn attention from political leaders and civil society groups in Kashmir who have urged authorities to remain in close contact with the students and ensure their well-being.

Officials from the Iranian Embassy have not issued any immediate statement regarding the discussions held during Mufti’s visit.

The development comes at a time when concerns have been raised by students studying in different Iranian cities regarding their safety, with some appealing to the Indian Embassy and Ministry of External Affairs to monitor the situation and assist them if necessary.
