KU makes biometric attendance mandatory in affiliated private colleges

Srinagar, Jan 8: To strengthen academic monitoring, University of Kashmir (KU) has made biometric attendance mandatory for students and staff enrolled in its affiliated private colleges from the academic year 2026–27.In an official circular issued by Assistant Registrar, College Development Council, the university informed all chairpersons and principals of private affiliated colleges that the new system will be compulsory across institutions affiliated with KU.The circular directs all colleges to install biometric attendance machines in their respective institutions on or before the commencement of the 2026–27 academic session, and to formally intimate the office of the College Development Council upon installation.It further said that colleges must ensure proper upkeep, maintenance, and systematic preservation of biometric attendance records to facilitate future reference and verification. “The colleges are directed to comply with this directive without fail,” the circular reads.University officials said the decision aims to enhance transparency, accountability, and regularity in attendance management across affiliated institutions.
